Joubaitori: A Photography Journal
Welcome to Joubaitori, a photography journal dedicated to documenting my creative journey. Inspired by the Japanese idiom “oubaitori,” which symbolizes the unique and individual pace at which we all grow and bloom, this site reflects my personal evolution through the lens of photography. Here, I share not only the images I capture but also the stories and emotions behind them. Join me as I explore the world, one photo at a time, and discover the beauty in our diverse and individual journeys.

About Jenni
Hi, I’m Jennifer Lee, a freelance photographer and front-end web developer with over a decade of experience capturing the world through my lens. My creative journey began in the non-profit sector as a freelance web and graphic designer, where I discovered the power of imagery to amplify unheard voices. On this journey, photography became my way to connect with others and share the awe I found in everyday moments, sparking a personal journey of growth and self-discovery.
Through my lens, I explore life lessons in patience, perspective, and the details that shape our world. Returning to school to complete my undergraduate degree in Visual Studies, I embraced my love for storytelling and image-making, refining my skills in both digital and analog photography. As a Teaching Assistant in the photo studio, I found joy in mentoring others while honing my craft, and earning awards in photo and cinema studies. Currently, I’m completing my BFA in Photography Media Arts at Toronto Metropolitan University, continuing to explore and evolve my creative voice.
Inspiration and Vision
My inspiration comes from the quiet observation of the world, finding beauty in the unique moments of human existence and the spaces we inhabit. I began with street photography and gradually expanded into landscapes, architecture, and documentary photography. The playful exploration of food and product photography also excites me. Guided by the Japanese philosophy “oubaitori,” I embrace the idea that each person blooms uniquely, in their own time. This visual journal documents my growth as an artist, delving into what motivates me and reflecting on the human experience. Still developing my style and interests, I aim to share the evolving story behind each photograph and connect with others who appreciate the beauty of individual journeys.
Feel free to reach out if you’d like to discuss all things creativity, share insights about your unique and creative journey, or are interested in working together. I’d love to hear from you!
